sir,
Gov 44429

Reas A. F 19 SEP 18
With reference to your letter of September 14th, on the
subject of Trade Marks registered in the joint names of ourselves
and Mesere. Meyerink & Co. we note that it is only necessary
that we should acquire that portion of the goodwill of Yesors.
Meyerink's business which is connected with the joint marks in
question.
We regret that owing to the length of time which the se marke
have been lying dormant, the goodwill is absolutely valueless,
though the marks themselves, being good ones, and our own
property everywhere else, are of a certain amount of value to us,
and if it is considered necesary that we should pay something in
order to secure the right to use what is really our own property,
we should be willing to pay a small nominal sum on each mark,
though we cannot see the justios of such a demand. We have
already explained in previous correspondence that Messre.
Meyerink & Co, quite recognise the fact that the marks in
question were our property, but that they were only registered in
our Jojnt names in Hongkong with a view to stopping the improper
use of them by others.
Under-Secretary of State,
Colonial Office,
LONDON, S.W.1.
We are,
sir,
Your obedient Servants J
